Hi All. Few weeks ago, I installed Windows 10 Technical Preview
Microsoft has released new Windows 10 Technical Preview version 10162 which you are able to download from Windows Insider Program here: Windows Insider Program
So, once you download new ISO image, lets upgrade already installed Windows 10 TP to the newest version.
Instead of turning the VM off and doing it from scratch, I’ll just do an in-place upgrade which is much faster.
For this purposes, I have a VM on which I have installed WIndows 10 Technical Preview version 10130:
I have attached .ISO image to my VM, and it is showing in File Explorer (you have noticed it is not called Windows explorer anymore):
Run the setup to start the process. It will start loading the image:
After the image is loaded, a Windows Setup screen is shown:
As Microsoft suggests, download and install important updates before you start doing an in-place upgrade.
Next page is a License Term page. Click Accept:
It’ll check for updates. It will show few messages, like ‘Making sure everything is ready for update’ and such. Just be patient.
And finally, we have got a message that everything is ready for the upgrade:
Now, you can keep it as it is, leaving to Microsoft to decide what to keep, or you can choose what to be kept during the upgrade.
If you want to change the options, click on “Change what to keep” link. You’ll get something like this:
As you may see, nothing sensational was offered. I would go for the first option, to keep personal files, and some options which we set.
After you click next, unfortunately, you’ll go thru one more ‘Make sure that everything is ready and steady’ cycle. Be patient 🙂
Install will finally start. You’ll get something like this:
After few restarts, it will actually start upgrading:
When the upgrade is finished, you will see a welcome screen:
Just go thru the setup, and once it is done, you will be logged. Check the lower right corner, just above the clock, to verify that you indeed have build version 10162:
